Apple Tasting
Blackmoor Apple Tasting 2012
Once again the good weather brought out massive crowds to Blackmoor Apple Tasting keen to sample the wide range of traditional and new apple and pear varieties on offer. With a short garden crop of apples this year the apple sales area was particularly busy. The charity stalls had great success raising £9000 in total for local charities including Alton Arthritis Trust, Chase Hospital, Hospice Services, Woolmer Forest Lions and St Matthew's Church and Primary school. The wildlife charities (including Amphibian and Reptile Conservation and Butterfly Conservation) and rural craft demonstrators put on informative and popular displays and the mystery apple identifiers were kept very busy.
William Wolmer, from Blackmoor Estate, said "It's great that apple tasting has become such a popular fixture in the local calendar - we even had people coming from Yorkshire! Thank you so much to all the volunteers who give up their time for apple cutting - without which the day would not be possible."
